Why Smashing My Brita Water Filter is Not Good!

Terminally destroyed I still valiantly tried to filter some water to drink whilst working this morning but had to give up in the end, admit defeat and leg it to the shops to buy a new one.

Did you know that our brain is 95% water and our blood 82%, (maybe less after a good night out!)

What Happens To Your Muscles When You Get Dehydrated?

Muscles need to be hydrated to work well and to avoid muscle cramps. The muscles need water to flex properly and avoid sagging. Properly hydrated muscles will show in plump smooth skin- think of a plum as against a prune, a fresh grape or a raisin. Which would you rather be?

Sports Physiotherapists will encourage you to drink plenty of water before and after exercising to help ward of cramping but also if you are even slightly dehydrated you will tire easily. This can affect you for days after too.

Although there seems to be some evidence that drinking cold water helps to burn off the calories, it is my experience that you can drink more water when it is at room temperature.

Drinking water will help your body transport all the toxins out of the muscles. It is a trnsport system to so many systems of the body that it seems crazy that so many people seriously neglect their water in take.

Ideas For Increasing Water Intake

  • Get some pint glasses and put one on your desk at work. You will drink far more out of a pint glass than a smaller one

  • Get a portable filter for your car and put that in the can holder instead of a fizzy drink

  • Put a reminder on your phone in the evening to fill a pint glass with water and leave on your bedside table to drink first thing in the morning. You’ll have lost about ½litre fluid into the bedclothes overnight and this will need replenishing

  • Get a bowl full of lemons, limes, oranges and put slices in a glass to make it more palatable without the calories if you really don”t like plain water

  • Yes you will go to the loo more, so get into the habit of checking the colour of your urine. Any darker then Pino Grigio and you need more water! Fill your glass after every pee break

  • Any sign of a headache drink a pint of water. You may be experiencing the first signs of dehydration. Your brain may be bumping against the side of your head!

  • To increase your concentration on your drive home have a pint of water before you leave work

  • Check out the herbal teas. There are so many to choose from now. Or if you have fresh mint growing near you, chuck some leaves in a mug and steep for a few minutes

    SO this is why I needed a new filter quickly, to avoid, muscle cramps, headaches and ageing rapidly!
