How Festival ‘Madness’ Cured My Headache

How Festival ‘Madness’ Cured My Headache

As I write it is peeing down with rain and I’m so glad it wasn’t like this last weekend. I was camping with some friends at the Croprody Festival and we had glorious weather and I also had a bad headache and shoulder/neck pain! Yes, I know I run a Physio clinic BUT there’s not always space for the boss and besides I knew my pain was stress related. Not a lot of time out and too much time in front of the computer screen or driving- Sound familiar?

Anyhow, not one to resort to drugs unless absolutely necessary we got into the swing of things and the fabulous Madness were headlining that night. They don’t change, lots of jumping around, high energy singing, waving your arms about- really I am of that age that no longer cares what others think! Didn’t think anything of it but 24 hours later and lots more music, relaxing in the sun, being totally disconnected from technology (crap reception in Croprody) suddenly realised no pain. Just 24 hours off work, away from domestic chores and focussed on something entirely different, had relaxed my body enough to ‘let go’ of all the tightness being held there.

So many musculo-skeletal problems are caused by stress and the bad postures we hold ourselves in, as we hunch over the computer, grip the steering wheel for dear life and refuse to take time out. We forget we are human BEINGS not human DOINGS. Physio’s at the clinic feel the stress and tension in the muscles and have to work hard on trigger points to get the muscles to ‘let go’.

Your Weekend HOUSE OF FUN?

So what about your weekend coming up? Are you a bit stressed right now? I’d urge to make a commitment to take some serious time out to regenerate your whole body and spirit. Determine to go somewhere completely new. Do something you’ve never done before, visit somewhere you’ve been meaning to go to forever and treat your mind to a new experience and focus. A familiar pub doesn’t count. Somewhere completely new does, as you have to concentrate on new surroundings, new sounds, new feelings about it all. Visit a new village with a great pub for lunch, get up early and get on the train to London to a museum, or maybe a local National Trust property. Or dare I say it a music festival? Notice how you feel when you have given yourself the gift of total time out for a day or a weekend.

The chores and the emails can wait;

“Take time to breathe life in because one day there will be no breaths left”

With love Jeannette Warr
