Silent Moments for Christmas

Silent Moments for Christmas

Do you love the Christmas Carol, Silent Night? The words are so peaceful and it’s so calming to sing. It can’t be rushed and the length of the notes are soothing. If you are feeling stressed and rather rushed this time of year, perhaps you could carve out a few moments of silence for yourself to calm your whole body and mind.

Why you need to spend a few minutes with yourself

Simple quiet time is healing. It enables your body to settle and your mind to relax. It allows you time to think clearly and just ‘be’. You are a human being not a human doing.

It’s really easy to do and requires no special preparation, equipment and it’s free.

How to have silent moments

In the madness, find 2-5 minutes to sit on a chair. Close your eyes. Feel your feet on the ground, notice your breathing. Breathe deep and slow into your belly without raising your shoulders, for 3 long breaths, then let your breathing return to normal. (I must warn you that if you are not used to breathing properly and normally shallow breathe you may feel slightly dizzy. If this is the case you need to practice more as you are seriously ‘stressy’ breathing)

Feel your body sink into the chair and allow it to take your weight. We hold on to so much tension in our legs, back and shoulders. Keep your mind on your breath and allow thoughts to come, acknowledge them and imaging them floating away. One of the things I like to do, is imagine a bubble around me in which all the thoughts float out, leaving clear space of calm and peace within.

When you are ready take another deep breath, open your eyes and come back to the world. That’s it and as little as two minutes can reenergise you and calm your mind.

Have a wonderful sleep in heavenly peace
